The farmer’s market still happens, even on mornings like this — fog clinging to the air, cold enough to make you hesitate. You stand at the fruit stall anyway, biting into a ripe cherry that bursts with juice, bright and sweet against the chill.

Coffee drifts through the crowd, warm and familiar, settling around you like an invitation to stay.

As the market hums back to life around you, someone steps closer. Cocoa milk, soft skin, a presence that shifts the air between you. A question is asked of the vendor, but the words blur. Instead, there’s a glance held just a second too long — a spark of pink peppercorn flashes, sharp and electric, your pulse quickening before you can steady yourself.

As the initial flutter softens into an easy sense of familiarity, a gentle breeze carries the sweetness of magnolia.

And you know this is the beginning of the story you’ll never stop telling.
